Connected

Today I am sharing a poem that I wrote about our inherent oneness. God, Divine Presence, The Universe, whatever we name it, does not perceive separation or give any evidence that creation is divided into “them and us.” On the contrary, everything is connected, a part of the flow and integral to the whole.

This encourages and reminds me that even when I see people acting outrageously toward each other there is a higher way. Even when I slip into the same apparent divide myself I have only to check myself and ask, “Is this true? Did I come here for this or something more?”

I truly believe that we are here for one reason: to expand the good. How can I be helpful, even in the smallest ways, to myself, another person and the world?

Investigate these questions on a daily basis and see what happens.

Here is the poem. Let me know what you think.

O Lord, you invite
The whole council of creation
to the going away party
Just cuz its your decision
that no one is left out.
The murmur of the fly
is present for cocktails
and conversation,
and at the slicing of swiss
in the bright supermarket.
The sun shining on Hog
and solitary walker
does not determine worth
only presence.
Nudged from our compartments
blinking,
we enter your world
like a teenager.
Are we that annoying?
Yet loved.
And that’s it –
bright star,
broken dreamer,
fashion victim,
fashion wreck,
Lord, you invite
the whole council of creation
to the launching.
The launching not of our forgetfulness
But of a more remembered you.
